Answers:
How do I ______ ?
Please take a look around and you will most likely figure out the answer to your question. The best way to learn is by doing.

I can’t figure out how to use this forum.
That’s because it’s not a forum. Keep in mind that this is a blog. You may leave comments, but you must be on the actual post page to do so. Only registered authors who are logged in may make new posts.

Why is the Asylum so random?
The Asylum is a intentionally diverse group of people talking about diverse things. If you wish to, you can sort the posts by category or author and even bookmark those pages.

What does RSS mean?
RSS is a web feed. You may go here to find out more information.

Why is it so blue?
The Asylum is blue to continue the spirit of the old Rydas.com site, which hosted the old Asylum. If you wish to find out more information please visit the About page.

What do I do if this site offends me?
Leave

Why doesn’t my comment show up immediately?
First time commentators have to have their first comment approved (this is a form of spam prevention). After that your comments should be immediately approved.

How do I get a avatar?
This site uses Gravatars, which are globally recognized avatars. For more information and to get one that will be recognized on this site and others, go here.

How do I make a smiley (emoticon)?
Here’s a list of text codes to turn text into a particular emoticon.

icon text text full text icon full text
:) “:)” “:-)” “” “”
:D “:D” “:-D” “” “”
:( “:(” “:-(” “” “”
:-o “:o” “:-o” “” “”
8-O “8O” “8-O” “” “”
:-? “:?” “:-?” “:???:” “”
8-) “8)” “8-)” “” :!: “:!:”
:x “:x” “:-x” “” :?: “:?:”
:P “:P” “:-P” “” “”
:| “:|” “:-|” “” “”
;) “;)” “;-)” “” “”

Note that a spacing between word and code is required in order to display an emoticon.

Why do some posts say “Read More”?
These posts are using a option that creates excerpts instead of displaying the entire post on the main page. If you wish to view the complete post just click the post title or the “read more” link.

Why do archive pages look so different?
Archives do not show the full post, nor do they show the full html. Archives are a great way to quickly browse content, but keep in mind that they are missing images, embedded videos and the like. Click the post title or read more link to view the post in all it’s glory.

Why are related posts not always related?
Related posts are generated automatically. While it can be a great way to find similar posts, the results won’t necessarily have anything to do with each other. The relation might be the same author, or merely similar tags. The higher the score, the more likely the posts are to being related.
